The United Nations peace-keeping operations under United Nations Security Council to authorize the deployment. Peacekeeping missions varied in different situations, depending on the nature of the conflict and its specific challenges. The provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, the Security Council bears primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. To fulfil that duty, the Council could carry out the United Nations peace-keeping operations.

The United Nations Charter is the foundation of all working documents of the United Nations.

Although the Charter does not have clear provisions on peacekeeping, but peacekeeping has evolved to become one of the principal means used to achieve the purposes of the United Nations.

The provisions of the Charter regulate that the United Nations Security Council bears primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. To fulfil that duty, the Council can adopt a series of measures, including carrying on the United Nations peace-keeping operations.

1.The sixth chapter on "peaceful settlement of disputes". United Nations peacekeeping operations are typically related to this chapter. Howeverthe Security Council adopt the resolution authorizing the deployment of United Nations peace-keeping operations without needing to refer to the specific chapters of the Charter, and has never invoked the sixth chapter.

2. The seventh chapter contains "coping with the threat to peace, peace damage and acts of aggression" related provisions. In recent years, unrest and instability in the post-conflict situation of the authority of the Council (the nation unable to maintain security and public order) the deployment of United Nations peace-keeping operations used to invoke the Charter seventh chapter of the practice. In these circumstances the Security Council to invoke chapter seventh, except that its legal basis for action, it may also be considered a firm statement of political determination, to remind the parties to the conflict and the broader United Nations Member States of their obligations of Security Council decisions.

3. Eighth chapter of the Charter on regional arrangements and agencies involved in the maintenance of international peace and security provisions provided that such activities are in line with the purposes and principles contained in chapter I of the Charter.
