In Qinghai Lake region, there are Na’erze Tidelands, Quanwan Spring, and many islands, including Birds Island, Haixinshan Island, Guchashan Island (also called “Three stones”) and Shadao Island, which are the perfect inhabitation of migrant birds.

Birds Islands are famous for millions of migrant birds living there. The island is s called “Xiaoxi Hill” or “Haixi Hill”, which is four km away from estuary of Buha River. The shape of Haixi Hill is like a hump. The length from west to east is 1500m. After 1978, the northern, western and southern edge of the island gradually connected with land, which formed an extensive gently sloping area covered with sand or gravel or shingle down to the water line. There are more than 100,000 birds on the island, in which Larus ichthyaetus, Anser indicus Latham and Larus brunnicephalus occupy most part. The main plants there are white shrub, astragalus, Polygonum, wormwood and etc. As the island is filled with nests, this island is called Dan Island.

Guchashan Island is located on southwest of Qinghai Lake, which is 700m long in west and east direction and 150m wide in north and south direction. It consists of seven pressed blocks of limestone and rocks. The northern part is a cliff. Only in the gap of rocks, can grass grow, so the vegetation cover rate is less than 5%. It’s one of the islands where most migrant birds inhabit.

Haixishan Island, also called Haixipi, is 6km away from estuary of Buha River. It is called the kingdom of Common Cormorant, as the nests of these birds are closely scattered on the cliff of northeastern island, which looks like the castle of birds. The vegetation cover rate on the island is more than 90%.
