Brief introduction

       Kumbum Monastery, also known as Ta’er Temple, gets its name from the Silver Tower in the Grand Golden Tiled Hall which was built in honor of Tsongkhapa – the founder of the Yello Sect of Buddhism. Ta’er Temple was also known as Buddha Temple (Gun-yin Bahrain in Tibetan Language), which means island of hundreds of thousands of Maitreya Buddha. Located at the foot of Lotus Mountain. at southwestern corner of Lushaer Town, Huangzhong County, it is not only the birthplace of Tsongkhapa -- the founder of Geluk (Yellow Sect of Buddhism) of Lamaism (Tibetan Buddhism), but one of six temples of Geluk of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the supreme scenic spot in Qinghai and the key cultural relics under the state-level protection.
