For whom are cypresses planted on the both side of avenue in Jiange? From ancient times to present,People have their own opinions about it.It seems that it is very difficult for people to agree on one convincing idea. After we exploring in many sides we find a lot of historical proofs.These cypresses do not attribute to anybody or the heritages of dynasties. These wonders of them are formed by five great historical plantings。

The first time is during Qin Dynasty.After Emperor Qin unifying the whole China,his warriors are asked to fell trees in a large number and build Efang palace.He insisted that Shushan towered and Efang upstanded.Grassroots complaint about the disforestation badly.In order to comfort the complaint Emperor give an order to plant cypresses in both sides of avenue all over the world,and he also wanted to show his power. These planted cypresses are called emperor cypress so these roads are called emperor cypress road。

The second time is during the period of sanguoshuhan ,Zhang Fei was appointed to defend Langzhong and he is the leader here.LiuBei was in Chengdu,JiangWei was in Jianmeng.In order to send and receive letters easily,Zhangfei ordered to plant cypresses by the side of roads.so commoners call these trees as zhangfei cypress and this road as zhangfei avenue。

The third time is during the region of Emperor dong jun .people in jiange planted cypresses in large numbers by both sides of avenue.people called it as planting fengmai trees.It means the whole country will be rich and prosperous ,more and more celebrities will be born in this land.Guofu wrote a book called planting trees story which has been carved in monumental stone.Until song dynasty,these stones has been corroded.These native inhabitants invited su dong po to rewrite the inscription.this monumental stone still exist in wu lian jue wan temple.these planted trees at that time are called jun cypress。

The fourth time is during tang dynasty tianbao period of xuanzong emperor.Empress Yang yuhuang liked lychee in chuannan.The emperor order his warridors to chuannan for getting lychee by quick horses over one night.He asked commoners to plant trees as shelter for keeping lychee fresh by the whole road.people planted more trees so these trees grow more denser.Old cypresses got their first shade and the road got its name as lychee road。

The fifth time is during zhengde period of ming dynasty.The header of jiange Li bi advocated people to plant more trees in both side of the road.These trees are called ming cypress and also called Ligong cypress。

After liberation,governors pay highly attention to protection of trees.There are appointed officials to care these trees.they also hang cards and register.The activity about adopting old cypress is a very practical way to make people involved in protecting these cypresses。
