Low-Carbon Life
Low-carbon life is defined as one in which people shall reduce the power consumption as much as possible in their working and rest time to lower carbon dioxide emission. For us,being low-carbon everyday is an attitude towards life as well as a new manner in which we boost the trend. We are facing a question:Are we willing to live a low-carbon life?We should actively emcourage low-carbon life and put it into practice by saving electricity and gas and turning off lights for Earth Hour, etc. In addition to planting trees, people take all kinds of action like buying those with short goods-vehicle miles and giving up using elevators,etc-some interesting while some inconvenient.
However, carbon emission reduction has become one of the important ways of carrying out low-carbon life for people who are concerned about global warming, aimed at kicking their habit of convenient consumption at the cost of high expenditure of energy, inadvertently. For instance,70% of the electricity will be used for coolers in a supermarket, and the energy consumption of an open one is 20% higher than that of a pushing one.The findings suggest that the excessive consumption of electricity of a medium-sized supermarket with open coolers is 48 thousand kWh,which means that an excess amount of 19 tons of standard coal and 190 thousand litres of water will be wasted, producing an excess amount of 48 tonnes of carbon dioxide. In Shanghai there are nearly 800 large and medium-sized supermarkets and 6,000 convenience stores. If were generally equipped with pushing coolers, these supermarkets would save 45.21 million kWh of electricity, which meant that 18 thousand tons of standard coal would be saved with 45 thousand tonnes of avoided carbon emissions. In China, per capita carbon dioxide emissions are 2.7 tons per year, but an urban white-collar,even with a living area of 40 square meters、a 1.6L car for commuting and 12 times fly per year,he will havecarbon emissions of 2.611 tonnes.Therefore,energy-saving and emission-reduction are imperative.
