The Antarctic Ice Sheet Is Melting at An Accelerating Rate

The Ice Sheet Is Melting at An Accelerating Rate

Due to global warming and the greenhouse effect, the Antarctic ice sheet is continually melting at an accelerating rate.According to the U.S.Snow and Ice Data Center, currently, the the Arctic icecap is with an area of 1.65 million square miles-the smallest one on record.

Helpless Penguins

Helpless Penguins

Global warming has been sharply changing the antarctic climate. And penguins' normal reproduction has been being seriously threatened by overmuch rainny weather with less snow.

Powerless and Frustrated Polar Bears

Powerless and Frustrated Polar Bears

he Arctic icecap is continually melting. The Arctic icecap in the summer of 1993 covered an area of 7.5 million square kilometers while by September,2007 only 4.3 million square kilometers left. The American scientists once warned that the polar bears would die out by 2050.

Walruses

Walruses

With the melt of the Arctic icecap, the walrus will become one of the victims, for as the sea ice melts, the newly-born walrus will die by drowing or of hunger.

Maldives

Maldives

Sea-level rise will make many coastal areas flooded,so will some tourist attractions with low altitude.According to researchers' analysis, the whole Maldives(1200 islands) would be swallowed up in 100 years if the sea level kept rising at its current rate, and by then,it wouldn't be inhospitable to mankind any more.

Venice

Venice

Venetians in recent years have been sufering enough from floods due to the rising sea level. Some Italian meteorologists said earlier that along with global warming floods will become increasingly frequent in Venice, and the city will be finally swallowed up becoming a real "Canal City".
