Mass Medias from Qinghai and Taiwan Eastern Multimedia Group reported this event.

Mr. Pan Tie-min congratulated to the startup of TTT’s “Distance Employment” and thought highly of TTT’s initiator, Mr. Sayling Wen’s contribution of assisting farmers in China western regions to get rid of poverty by internet. He also expressed sincere thanks to TTT’s contribution, including building of “Care West” platform, designing of educational software, offering help to member schools and students, which deeply promoted the development of local education. He hoped the “Distance Employment” would carry out smoothly.

Mr. Gao Hai-bin expressed thanks to TTT’s assistance and support to Qinghai education program for years. At the same time, he encouraged TTT member schools to catch the opportunity to increase teaching level, and promote educational development. It was better if more people care about the students in western poverty-stricken regions.

Then, Dr. Kenny Lin introduced the purpose and sense of “Distance Employment” project, which aimed at discovering, training and employing talents. It was the trade-mark of TTT’s initiator-Mr. Wen Sayling’s developing western regions in seven steps: schools leading local economic development, expanding e-business, improving agriculture and pastoral economy, establishing internet villages, encouraging relocation from rural settlements to internet villages, developing the service industry and enacting a system of remote employment and service. This project further forge Wen’s dream ahead. This project consisted of “West China Stories” cyber creation, western talents selection, purchasing of western-style flash, which would further promote the local economy and network.

Mr. Qu Jun-xian said that the theme of this year’s Telecommunication Day was “Benefit Telecommunication Technology to Next Generation”, however, children in rural poverty-stricken areas had little access to network. It had been an urgent task for telecom enterprises to open broadband network service to schools for free. In this way, the students and teachers would have more chances to learn the outside world and get involved into information society. It was communication enterprises’ irresistible responsibility to benefit telecommunication technology to our next generation.
Mr. Chen Kai-nan, the director of Chongqing Crown Construction Group, expressed his support to the project, hoping more western talents becoming his employees.

Mr. Peng Hai-na, the department head of TTT, introduced the implementation of Town and Talent projects in recent years, including Care West e-platform and China West Story.

Dated back to the year when Mr. Wen Sayling died, TTT followed the initiator’s belief “charity deeds leading to business opportunities” to bring long-term benefits to impoverished areas. Within several years, hundred of TTT member schools were set up all over western China with “One Touch”operating systems enabled computer classrooms each had its own web-site. The schools received not only 2,200 computers, but also eligible for free educational software.

At the end of 2005, the “Care West”e-platform was put into practice. In only one and a half year, large amount of material and financial support was offered to member schools and students, including 730,000 yuan scholarship to 83 schools, more than 1 million yuan to 36 schools, 80,000 yuan medical treatment fees to 4 students, 20,000 volumes of book, 600 movie disks, SET competition at TV station, 20 times of large training programs, 40 times of English training program to remote schools by foreign experts, and 600 times of communication between school and people in all walks of society. “Plant Trees & Nurturing People”project encouraged financial aid students to take part in social practice, such as caring lonely seniors, cleaning streets and etc. while receiving help, they would transfer love care to more people in need. Mr. Ted Wen, the elder son of Mr. Wen Sayling and the director TTT, carries out the project “China West Story” at the beginning of 2007. This project aimed at encouraging students to observe customs in their hometown and interview local people in spare time, and then make these stories into web pages. It was supposed that 1000 students would participate in this program and 8000 web pages created.

At the beginning of this project, more than 400 students enrolled in this activity and registered their personal information on www.westchinastory.com. Their self-making web pages were rich in content, such as introducing Muslim customs, rural life and farming in western regions, production of specialized food and etc. Among them, a page named “The Backwardness behind Prosperity” provoked us to think about the phenomenon of dirty environment after economic prosperity. Until today, more than 300 web pages were presented on the web site.

Many students learned computer from the very beginning-typing, so they were quite satisfactory with their work. Mr. Dong Kai-fu, the instructor of Longtan Middle School of Haxi Town, Gansu, said that, this project promoted us to cultivate students in all aspects, in which they learned to interview, take pictures, and make web pages. In the process, they deeply understand local culture and introduce local custom, economy, and culture to the whole world. They were proud of doing this job. From the long-term viewpoint, the implementation of this project not only informed students the importance of internet, but also cultivated their computer ability, which would offer them opportunity for working in eastern or even overseas enterprises if they failed in college entrance exam.

Ms. Zhao Li-li, the employee of TTT, introduced “Western Talents Selection” and “Western- Style Flashed Purchasing” project, hoping more western people could take part in to promote local culture and economic prosperity.

Mr. Fu Ming-xiang, the representative of TTT member schools, made a report about the school’s present situation after becoming member school. They would further carry out projects of “Plant Trees & Nurturing People”, “Western Talents Selection”, “China West Story” and etc.

Mr. Zeng Zhi-lang reviewed TTT’s initiator, Mr. Sayling Wen’s contribution of promoting cultural, educational and economic development in western regions. He also encouraged students from Taiwan and Mainland to communicate in more brand aspect. In this way, more people would get familiar with western regions. After the startup ceremony, the presidents and professors from five Taiwan universities had a discussion about education with presidents of Qinghai University, Qinghai Normal University and Qinghai Nationalities University.

Then, the present member school teachers took part in training of “China West Story”, “Western Talents Selection” and how to use CISS_OA (a campus management auto system). CISS_OA was designed by TTT, using internet and mobile telecommunication to build information platform for rural areas. It would promote rural economy, education, employment and ideological construction. It offered an opportunity for rural areas creating wealth by using internet, which enabled them to stand on the same starting line with urban areas.

In 2006, Dacai Middle School, Qinglin Township Tu Center School, and Taole No. 1 Middle School won three silver prizes in International Schools CyberFair. This was the first time that schools in China mainland took part in such international competition and stood out from 503 schools in 52 countries. It proved that students from financially-strapped rural areas could be also excellent in condition of equal opportunity. This year, 12 schools took part in this competition.
