1,What is "charity deeds leading to business opportunities"? Does TTT benefit from charity?

Public benefic and business profit are generally viewed as contradictions. How can TTT put “social entrepreneur” concept into practice since lack of profits will almost certainly result in unsustainable public benefits programs? The first step of “schools leading local economic development” begins with donating computers to impoverished local schools. Subsequently, we assist them in quickly leveraging this into a profitable and successful business model by following the next six steps. For instance, the second step “maximizing e-business” is carried out with the vision of setting up a whole chain of digital centers in western China. We also carry out Talents-nurturing, remote employment and other programs to promote economic development in impoverished regions. All these begin with donation to needy students and care visit to member schools. Mr. Sayling Wen, the initiator of TTT, believed that the best charity was to teach aided people how to survive by themselves?

TTT considers “promoting economic development” as its mission. It gets no pay from charity projects. What’s more, it spends much in constructing an e-charity platform, on which 155 member schools have registered.

2,What is TTT member school? Why all charity projects are carried out only in member schools? How to join in it?

TTT member schools, are those who identify TTT’s belief and have the desire to cooperate with TTT. Before 2003, each member school was donated with 20 computers, net facilities and software. With the spread of computers, TTT stopped to donate computer after 2003. Every year, TTT organizes different activities, in which the all the charges are paid by TTT. Member schools don’t need to pay member fees.

There are 155 member schools located in 15 provinces in China. Most of them have cooperated with TTT for more than 3 years. The first group of member schools has cooperated with us for more than 6 years. Because of long term cooperation, we have built good relationship with member schools, and our e-charity platform is based upon member school websites. We hope more charity projects can be carried our among member schools, which is a good way to promote local development.

Most member schools are located in impoverished areas. If you want to be our member school, please apply to local Taiwan Affair Office, and then TTT and the Office will visit the applied school. TTT will send monthly evaluation to provincial Taiwan Affair Office. TTT also need principal’s support and a teacher charged of TTT projects. Being qualified for TTT training examination, you can register as our member school.

3,What is Talents-nurturing project? What kind of talents you are going to nurture?

Talents-nurturing is a new project carried out by Mr. Ted Wen, which aims at encouraging beneficiary students to observe customs in their hometown and interview local people in spare time, and then make these stories into web pages. After several years’ training, students can be a member of “remote employment”. Besides charity donation, TTT cultivate talents in western China, which add possibility for other enterprises to invest in western China.

The sense of Talents-nurturing is to leave talents in western China, create wealth, improve living standard and promote cultural development. Only if talents are remained in local area, can we ensure sustainable development. With the improving of income, local service industry will be promoted. In this way, the destiny of impoverished area will be changed. TTT’s Western China Story has constructed such an e-charity platform for remote training, remote employment and management, which makes a foundation of more enterprises.

4,Can internet help western impoverished areas?

United Nations Development Programme defines the poverty in 21st century as people’s rejection to opportunities and selection of developmentrather than inadequate income. However, it is the opportunity that leads to long term healthy and creative life. Thus, the anti-poverty strategy in the new century should be focused on increase people’s knowledge-based wealth and improve people ability of development. It’s clear that TTT is forging ahead on the road.

Mr. Sayling Wen always said that the internet was the greatese gift the heavens could ever have bestowed on the poor. Because of the existence of internet, the remote villages have the possibility to join in global economy, and to acquire the latest information and skill. TTT solve poverty problem by using internet, introducing outside resource, bridging digital gap, laying foundation for long-term and sound economic development. The goals of Town and Talent Technologies are three simultaneous levels of knowledge, income and living standard between impoverished area and developed area.

One important TTT strategy is to maintain talents in western China to create wealth , improve local living standard and develop local culture. As long as talents are kept, the sustainable development can be ensured.

In the 1980s, the Fofflers envisioned the future of the information society in The Third Wave. He predicted that in the information era, agricultural societies could transform directly into information societies, bypassing the industrial stage entirely. They could easily avoid all of the side-effects and social turmoil that too often characterize the industrial period.

Town and Talent is claimed as Digital Hope Project, because it use internet to get rid of poverty in impoverished areas. During practice of breakthrough traditional theories in 6 years, TTT improve local school entrance rate, increase people’s income, build e-charity platform. Impoverished areas can benefit from e-business, receive latest training program, and sell their specialties in the market. The realization of remote employment fundamentally changes the development mode of impoverished areas.

5,Is TTT a charity organization?

Town and Talent Technologies was invested more than 10million dollars by Mr. Sayling Wen in Cayman Island, and re-invested in Beijing. It was founded in Jan of 2002 with headquarter in Beijing, and branches in Tianjin, Chongqing, Lanzhou and etc. there are more than 100 employees. Wen believed that the solution to poverty in China rural areas was to introduce internet, promote knowledge-based economy development, concentrate scattered villages in a central location, and develop service industry. The first stage begins with schools leading local economic development. By using internet, towns and villages in distant areas could be remotely trained in essential software, English and typing skills. This would elevate the level of knowledge in underdeveloped areas to equal that of the eastern coastal region of China. Schools would become internet bases, assisting villagers in performing e-business and facilitating the inflow of outside knowledge. It would offer the opportunity for locals to create wealth without relocating, permitting skilled workers to remain in their hometowns.

Based on this conception, TTT carries out projects including Talents-Nurturing, West China Story, Planting Trees & Nurturing People, Care Schools, Care Visits and etc, aiming at realizing simultaneous levels of knowledge, income and living standard between impoverished area and developed area.

As a social entrepreneur, TTT dreams of aiding impoverished areas in western China by using internet. Our e-charity platform: www.westchinastory.com has free access to anyone, on which individual or organizations can donate directly to needy students. No charge is requested. We hope people from all walks of society to pay attention to our charity deeds characterized by openness, transparent, fact and interaction.

6,Comparing with other charity organizations, what's the specialties of Care West?

True: we have cooperated with member schools for more than 3 years and we communicate with school administrators’ everyday, so we can ensure the needy students'information correct. We visited most member schools. In the past two years, more than 3000 students from 93 schools benefited from our project.
Transparency: your donation will be transferred directly to students’ account, without extra fees. If needed, we can substitute donors to choose students and surprise the whole process of donation. Each donation is recorded on our net.
Interaction: donors and beneficiary students can communicate on our e-charity platform, on which each donation is recorded.
Cultivation: we encourage students to write their stories on the net, plant trees, take care of other needy people and etc to repay the society. We try to get rid of self-contempt.

7. How to donate to students?

Choose a student or students; inform us (ysrlinkup@townandtalent.com); we offer student’s account; post money directly to student’s account; offer student’s feedback on our net.

If you feel bother to choose student, you can tell us your requirement of choosing students, such as the province, age, amount of money and etc. we can choose students for you and inform you immediately.

8. How to ensure student's information true?

We have cooperated with member schools for more than 3 years and we communicate with school administrators’ everyday. We have an evaluation system of member school’s credibility. If something false about student’s information happened, we will lower school’s credibility and inform local educational bureau. In picking out students, we choose students from higher credibility schools at first.

You can also call or visit the school to check whether the student’s information is true. We can assist to arrange the visit and offer their telephone numbers.

9.How to ensure the donation used as tuition fees?

We request students or their parents set account firstly, and donors can post money directly to their account, which is a good way to reduce the possibility of problems. What’s more, schools can surprise students’ parents and vice versa. All students’ information and donation is recorded on our net, which can be surprised by everyone.

10. Why students apply for donation after tuition remission?

Tuition remission is a national policy; however, in implementation, there is a degree of execution in different places. In some places, all miscellaneous fees are remitted; while in some places, students need to pay half the miscellaneous fees. As for many families in western China, their annual income is less than 1000 yuan. Students’ campus life costs a lot. Some students have one parent or parents get serious illness.

The students in senior middle school have to pay all the miscellaneous fees, which is a difficulty in rural family. Many students can’t hand in the fees at the begging of new semester, while some still can’t in the end of semester.

11.How to contact with students?

If you have donated to students from West China Story platform, you can login with your account on the platform to see students’ stories and their message. At the same time, you can leave message to students, and contact with school and TTT administrators.
