Surface: Handexiang was nearly 70 years old. He is the first farmer to regulate the desert.

He once listed the model national in 1988 ningxia, rewarding the gold medal by dengxiaoping

who encouraged him: be hard. Today we had a face to face interview with this silent hero

for regulating the sand.

Staff: When did you start to regulate the desert?

Han: From 1981

Staff: What drives you to regulate?

Han: At that time the desert eroded the farmland, the soil even was affected, so the soil

became stiff and the plant could not grow.

Staff: What's the main measurement?

Han: Planting, take the tree as the screen to stop the sand. From 1981 to 1997 the desert

planting.

The staff: So after we don't plant the tree?

Han: No, I keep the tree.

Staff: What is the main impressive thing in the process of planting?

Han dexiang: In 1989, due to the timber in the market, we had a lot of tianniu insect. But

it was terrible that all water and tree were full of insects, so our trees had to be cut after

nearly ten years planting. That was most regret but no choice. We could not see the insects

eating everything. I saw the forest, I cried. Remember I planted more than 40000 trees at

my hard period. Until 1989 I don't remember how many trees only I remember the tears.

Staff: Do you hesitate when the trees were cut?

Han: No (firmly) looking the bare, I make up my mind to make it into green and better.

Staff: In the process, any other help available? Any other people join into?

Han: Yes, first was the attention of the leaders, the power and water department supplied

the machines free, the forest department provided the trees. The leader of the town lead

the villagers to help me plant. Teachers planted the trees for me every year.

Staff: How many trees approximately have you been planting since 89?

Han: About 20000 hectares

Staff: What is the biggest difference between before and now?

Han: With the time going, the land seldom got the hurt from the desert. I don't want to

see one day hot summer makes one skin crack.

Staff: Can you see what is the future of the desert?

Han: As the first one to regulate the desert, I hope the sense of desert can pass

generation by generation, realizing the true harmony.
