Today we went to interview Mr Chen Wang-lin, who is the niece
of Chen Wang-lin. He told us the story about his uncle. It was
on Aug 15, 1935,
the twenty –fifth Armies arrived at Shanjiaji in Xiji County.
In Aug 17th, they decided to climb Liupan Mountain at night.
In that afternoon, six vanguards met him on the mountain and
showed their request. Chen led them to cut across the mountain
in midnight. About two hours later, some KMT soldiers seemed
to discover them, but they didn't pay much attention. In the
very morning, they arrived at Gaodian Village. In the morning,
they reached Gansu Town, where the Red Army and KMT fought against
each other. One bullet ran through Chen's left arm. Because
of missing his mother, Chen required to go home. After three
days, he arrived at the village; however, he dared not to go
home directly and hided in other's home. Unfortunately, two
strangers barged into his home, which made him believe that
they came to catch him. Immediately, he rushed into mountains.
From then on, he lived like a vagrant, working like labor on
farmland and in mines. Until the liberation of China in 1949,
he united with his family members. In 1976, he died and was
buried at the foot of Liupan Mountain.
At the end of interview, Chen Wang-lin told us that his uncle
had neither son nor daughter. It was his wife and him taking
care of the old man. The local government arranged them to work
in medicinal company in Longde County. |
