Looking For Artisan

As the western people, it is our duty to contribute as much as we can to our hometown. In recent years as the rapid development of industrial modernization and urbanization in rural areas, the spontaneous transmission cultural heritage of the Tu embroidery is facing the crisis of being lost. We participate in this website contest, in hope of showing to the world the Tu embroidery arts, and influencing a time with the artisan’s pursuit on embroidery arts. Just like the Town and Talent Project, with their hardworking, trying to influence the western of China and even the whole world. We love our hometown so we should by no means, reject to help promote the embroidery arts in order to keep its better passing on and development.

In the early morning of a rainy day, we were anxious and excited to set out to look for the embroidery artisan, after over one hour car way in the rugged mountain road, we together eight people finally arrived Weiyuan Town in Huzhu county of Qinghai province. There, we met our previous teacher Mr. Guo and thanks to his introduction and guidance, finally we met Grandmother Li Faxiu. Grandma Li was also very happy at our visit and very hospitality to us. Although grandma was over fifty years old, she was strong and smart still, showing us series of her excellent and eye-catching embroidery works. We did enjoy appreciating her arts that of industry and wisdom. Grandma Li Faxiu is a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage.
