| In 25,00li Long March, the Red Armies not only combated KMT,
but also carry out the Party's National Minorities Policy effectively.
In Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the soldiers of the Red Armies
united with Hui people as one family, which laid a basic foundation
                  for formulating minorities' policy.
1 The minorities' policy to Hui people made them to realize
the importance of the Red Armies and the Party. Since then,
Hui people actively support their action.
In 1935, before entering Guyuan City, all the soldiers in the
Red Armies learned the national minorities' policy. The military
leaders had meeting with local Ahongs to propagandize the Party's
policy. In the following three days, the Red Armies soldiers
helped local people to clean the streets. Some military doctors
gave medical treatment to patients. The Red Army also had to
abide by the "Six Principles of the Red Army".
Put back all doors when you leave a house
Rice-stalk mattresses must all be bundled up again and returned
Be polite. Help people when you can.
Give back everything you borrow, even if it's only a needle.
Pay for all things broken, even if only a chopstick.
Don’t help yourself or search for things when people are not
                  in their houses.
At the end, more than ten Hui men decided to participate in
this army. All these practice proved that the triumph of the
Long March was the result of support and help of different minorities.
2 The Party's National Minorities Policy was the magic weapon
for the Red Armies and the foundation for Hui people's new
life. In May, 1936, the grand joining of forces by the three
front armies signaled the victorious conclusion of the 25,000
li (12,500km) Long March. It meant a tremendous boost to the
Red Army forces. It meant the Red Army had advanced to the
forefront of the resistance against Japanese aggression, of
the struggle to national salvation. At that time, the director of the General Political Department-Yang
Shang-kun issued "Regulations on the work in Hui people",
in which five tasks were proposed. They were: firstly, launch
struggle in Hui people to fight against KMT and Japanese armies'
oppression. Secondly, build Hui people's self-controlled organizations.
Thirdly, persuade Hui people to corporate with Red Armies
to fight against Japanese aggression. Fourthly, establish
good relationship with Hui people and respect their customs.
Fifthly, set up policies to guide administration of Hui people.
These policies required all minorities unite together to fight
                    against Japanese's aggression.
3 The Red Armies left a good impression among Hui people,
which laid a foundation for revolution in the future. From
1939 to 1941, the Red Armies fostered large amount of leaders
in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Most of them became members
of the Party. In anti-Japanese war and liberation war, they
set good examples for local people. Our National Minorities
Policy authorized Hui people to be their own masters. After
the foundation of China in 1949, Guyuan Hui and Wuzhong Autonomous
Prefectures were founded. In 1958, Ningxia Hui Autonomous
Region was founded on the base of these two prefectures. As
long as different minorities unite together, our nation will
                    develop steadily.
