The modern civilization disappears

Binggou used to be the center of civilization in history; however, today’s situation is completely different. The main reason is desertification, which is caused by two factors. The first factor is deterioration of natural environment. As the climate in northern China is very dry, the soil is loose and the forest is scattered sparsely. The second factor is due to human beings. Since Qin Dynasty, Binggou was the important military defense and changed between farm land and pasture. The several times of change seriously destroy local natural environment. As a result, the base of civilization disappeared.

We have seen the severe consequence of desertification and generally realized the importance of protecting natural environment. We use grass lace to fix sands and plant trees, which are able to endure dry climate.

Nowadays, china has been one of the countries facing severe desertification in the world. The desert, sands and desertification area (334,000 km2) in northern China has reaches 1,490,000 km2, which amounts to 15.5% of the mainland. According to research, the speed of desertification is 1600 km2 every year. The total amount is 39,000 km2 in recent 25 years, which is even larger than Taiwan Province.

The consequence of desertification is too ghastly to contemplate. The most direct one is sand storm. In spring and autumn, many cities in northern China face this problem. However, the source of sand storms mostly comes from desertification area.

In recent years, the grassland of Ningxia Autonomous Region degenerates seriously, in which the desertification rate is 24.9%. The reasons can be divided into natural factors and human factors. Natural factors refer to the decreasing of rain fall and human factors are over herding, which destroys ecological balance.

In history, Binggou used to be a fertile place. Because of over felling of trees, the ecological balance is broken. If it continues, human beings will bring catastrophe to themselves at the end.
