Roles

The characters of Sichuan opera are called Hangdang (role). They are divided into 6 roles: Sheng(male role), Dan(female role), Jing(painted-face role), Mo(middle-age male character), Chou(Xiao Hua Lian) and Za (juggler)

Make-up

The facial make-up in Sichuan Opera, its delicate and artistic are as good as Beijing opera. Jing and Chou characters have facial make-up, Chou’s make-up is to paint white box on the bridge of the nose, the people named it "painting nose", there are positive characters and negative characters, blending solemn in harmony. Jing, also known as "Hua Lian", its facial make-up is rich and colorful, the bad man and loyal man are clear, black to show rough,fierce or impartial, white to show cunning and cruelty, red to show loyalty and brave, green to show chivalrous tenderness, blue to show steadfast, yellow to show brutality and cruelly, gold and silver to show inviolability and dignity.
